A Nigerian man identified as Jerry alias Peter, was on Wednesday, August 22 arrested alongside one other in Delhi, India for smuggling drugs which includes 400 grams heroin which was recovered from them.
Tarun Kumar who was arrested on Wednesday from Indira Park area of Uttam Nagar, Delhi, gave the information that led to the arrest of the Nigerian man at Mohan Garden locality of Uttam Nagar. Tarun who is accused of supplying drugs in Punjab after getting the supplies from Peter, was arrested after one Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi of Bathinda was arrested with 50g heroin from Katar Singh Wala village bus stand near Bathinda on August 18.
Upon interrogation, Gurpreet told the police that was drug supplied to him by Tarun and that Tarun got his supplies from Peter. After this, a police party was sent to Delhi, which on Wednesday arrested Tarun, and then Peter, with 400g heroin.
Bathinda SP (investigations) Swarn Singh Khanna who spoke to journalists, said;
“During initial investigations it was found that Peter belongs to Lagos city in Nigeria and is residing in Delhi since 2014. He was into readymade-clothes business but started smuggling drugs. He provided drugs to Tarun several times. Tarun faces two cases under the NDPS Act at Bathinda and Mansa and is on bail. He used to smuggle drugs to Bathinda from Delhi.”
This is coming just after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Bengaluru, arrested a Nigerian national with 155.5 grams of cocaine which was being transported from Mumbai to the city. The accused identified as Ozy Chukwudu, 30, was intercepted by the NCB sleuths when he disembarked from a sleeper bus from Mumbai to Bengaluru. With specific information of cocaine smuggling, the NCB team was waiting for his arrival from Mumbai.
Chukwudu, who did not have a passport and other documents, was carrying a polythene bag with 11 capsules which contained cocaine. The drug was brought to Mumbai by an unidentified man hiding it in his stomach and was later handed over to Chukwudu to be brought to Bengaluru.
