There’s no doubting the fact that Wizkid is one of the biggest cultural influencers in Nigeria, and beyond his music, he’s clearly making efforts to ensure he’s at the centre of it all. Following his recent line of tour merchandise, he’s now collaborated with Nike for a new collection of Starboy jerseys.
When Nike unveiled the Super Eagle’s World Cup kit in February, Wizkid was one of the people they enlisted for inspiration during the design process. As we all know, the jersey got a lot of attention, and the Nigerian players were dubbed “football fashionistas” as a result. Even though Nigeria didn’t bring the cup home, the jersey definitely played a part in uniting Nigerians to support the team.
Following that, it’s safe to say that, in these parts, jerseys have become a style staple for everyone, and Wizkid is pushing this culture forward with his own new collection of jerseys. This deal will make Wizkid the first African artist to have his own official jersey, and if that doesn’t blow you away, we’re not sure what your measure of cool is!
We hope that these jerseys (unlike the World Cup kit) take the average Nigerian into consideration in terms of cost, and will actually be accessible to most of us over here.
